You need to switch on three settings.

Go to [Settings] > [System] > [Automatic Downloads] > Tick the check box next to [Application Update Files].
- Switch on Rest Mode
Press and hold the PS button and select [Enter Rest Mode]. The power indicator on the PlayStation 4 system will turn orange.
How do I enable remote downloads?
Remote downloads are available when purchasing content through PlayStation Store online or on mobile. To enable this feature, you will need to switch on one setting*:
- Go to [Settings]> [Power Save Settings] > [Set Features Available in Rest Mode] > [Stay Connected to the Internet].
*Remember to leave your PS4 system in rest mode for successful remote downloads.
What functions are available with auto-update?
- Game updates (patches) and system software updates are automatically downloaded and installed.
