It seems like Honeywell have been making highly regarded heating and cooling control systems forever. The Honeywell TH9320WF5003 Wi-Fi 9000 Color Touchscreen Thermostat is one of its current offerings. While, even Honeywell would admit, the styling in traditional and conventional, inside it is a sophisticated and uses the latest technologies. So while it may not have the looks of the Nest Learningor the ecobee3, it certainly has the technology which ensures that the TH9320WF5003 is one of the best Wi-Fi thermostats currently available.Firstly, it has a fully functional color touchscreen display, where you can easily program the thermostat in using English, Spanish or French, with the full QWERTY keyboard, in either Fahrenheit of Celsius. Or, you can program it through your computer, smartphone or tablet using the free apps. Including selecting 1 of 12 possible display colors.
This has been designed with ease of installation and setup in mind. The redesigned terminal block means that you can reconnect your wires without even needing a screwdriver, OK you may need a screwdriver to disconnect from the old thermostat, but the thought is there. The setup of the system is designed to take you everything step by step, without the need for a manual, which is a big plus.

How easy it is to set up and then adjust your smart thermostat is one of the major elements in saving you on energy costs. The TH9320WF5003 is nice and simple to use. After the setup, there is very little need for any user interactions. The thermostat will run itself. The only time that you may need to do anything is if you are operating outside of your normal routine – home when you usually are away and vice versa. If there are any events outside your set parameters the device will send you an email alert.

As this is primarily a replacement thermostat, how easy it is to install depends very much on the existing installation. This, in common with nearly all Wi-Fi thermostats, does need a ‘C’ wire. If you don’t have one, you either need to install one, add a power extender kit or, depending on your system, there is a possible way to work around this as shown in this video.
If you don’t have a ‘C’ wire and don’t want to install one or the work around is not suitable for you, an alternative that could suit your needs is the Sensi Wi-Fi Smart Programmable Thermostat 1F86U-42WF.

This is one of the most straightforward thermostats to program. As soon as it is powered up, you are taken through a number of intuitive steps that will enable you to program your settings without having to refer to an instruction manual. The programming, and any subsequent changes that you want to make, can be either carried out through the full function touchscreen of through a computer, a smartphone or a tablet using the free Android or Apple app.

As with all programmable thermostats, the amount of energy savings depends on how you used your system before, how accurately you set up the system and partly where you live. Some energy providers provide discounts or rebates on your energy bill if you have an approved thermostat fitted.
The average user can expect to save between 20% to 25% on their home heating and cooling costs.

Even though the TH8732WF5034/U is a very technologically advanced Wi-Fi programmable thermostat it still retains a very conventional box-like appearance. The important question, though, is how good is it at controlling your heating and cooling a and saving you on your energy costs and is it good value for money?
The answer is, without a doubt, yes. As long as a little time is spent initially setting up the programmed heating and cooling times (through the easy setup guide), this is a highly efficient thermostat which is designed and built to last – hence the very long 5 year warranty.

Once setup you can virtually forget about it. If there is a problem with your system the device will send you an email alert, letting you know what is wrong.
If away on vacation, entering when you are away and returning will switch your system down and save energy heating or cooling an empty house. If you decide to extend your stay away, you can easily alter the settings through a computer, smartphone or tablet (Apple or Android).
If you like your hi-tech to look hi-tech then you may like to consider the Nest Learning or the ecobee3. Honeywell have brought out their own ‘stylish’ thermostat – the Lyric, but this is, unusually for Honeywell, not very successful and does not rate high enough to be included in our review of the best programmable thermostats. Although it is available through re-sellers, Honeywell’s website claims that it is not available for sale in the US.
