Effective email marketing isn’t easy to get right so we’ve taken a look at the best email marketing automation software for Mac and PC in 2019 to drive higher conversions.
- The best email marketing software on the market is all web-based but the good news is that almost all of them work well and look great on a Mac. Most bulk email marketing software on Mac is also commercial i.e. Requires payment or subscription.
- Mobirise is available for Windows and macOS and comes fully free of charge. If you need a fully responsive website in the fastest way possible, ditch the code editors and head over to Mobirise. Some of the best HTML editors for Mac OS X are free or available as an evaluation version with no enforced time limit.
If you already use a CRM system, you’ll find that some of the best CRM software already include email marketing tools although they’re usually nowhere near as sophisticated or effective as dedicated apps like those featured here.
If you combine them with sales territory mapping software, the tools featured here will help you create some really effective targeted email campaigns.
And for added professionalism, you can use some of these stunning stock photo sites to make your email marketing campaigns really stand out such as the amazing Adobe Stock.
And remember, if you don’t find anything you like here, you can always install Windows on your Mac and use your favorite PC email marketing software instead.
Tips On Choosing Email Marketing Software
Best Mac email clients of 2018 While Mail for Mac is a great email client for most users, some of us require something a little more feature-rich for our day-to-day life.
There’s a few things useful to be aware of before choosing email blast software. Here are some things to consider before you take the plunge.
- Some vendors offer a free service for sending mail to a limited number of recipients which may be suitable for very small scale marketing efforts. However, these free versions sometimes include heavy branding by the vendor as it’s a way to promote their own service and brand to your subscribers. Usually if you upgrade to a paid subscription you can remove or limit this branding but make sure before you sign-up for any service that you’re comfortable with the amount of vendor branding on your marketing emails.
- The best email marketing software on the market is all web-based. Most bulk email marketing software is also commercial i.e. requires payment or subscription. Usually this consists of two payments models – pay as you go or a monthly subscription (the latter being more common). Subscriptions can range anywhere from around $12-40 per month for the most basic plans depending on the number of emails you want to send or the number of subscribers you need to reach. Most email marketing apps offer discounts if you pay for a subscription annually rather than monthly.
- Other than price, there a few things to bear in mind when choosing which marketing planning software to go for apart from the pricing plan. Support is something that is quite important with email marketing software especially if you’re dealing with thousands of email blasts that either aren’t formatting correctly or not being received for some reason. The best services feature Live Chat, Telephone and Email support so make sure to check this before subscribing. Others rely on user forums to help you find solutions yourself but this can be extremely frustrating if you’re dealing with mass mail outs.
- Make sure that the software you choose can import your contacts. Most decent services can import from Outlook, Excel, CSV, OS X Contacts etc. It’s also important to make sure that if you choose to leave the service, that you can export your contacts in a format that can be read by other marketing software so don’t forget to check this too. The same goes for unsubscribing users from your mailing list – make sure that the software enables users to easily unsubscribe otherwise you just end up getting a bed rep. The best email marketing services also allow you to setup auto-responders which can send mail to your users or subscribers on important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, welcome emails and goodbye emails for unsubscribers.
- Finally, tracking your campaigns is essential to making sure that your email marketing campaigns are being effective. The best email marketing software allow you to see at a glance importing stats such as open rate, click-through rate (CTR) rate, subscribe/unsubscribe numbers etc. Most of the most advanced marketing software can even trigger events based on the actions of users when they receive the mail such as send more tailored follow-ups, promotions and other marketing material (known as marketing automation). An increasing number also integrate with Google Analytics and CRM software such as Salesforce.
- GDPR compliance is something that has affected many online businesses and its particularly relevant when it comes to email marketing. The General Data Protection Regulation went into effect on May 25, 2018. If you’re going to be targeting users in Europe, it’s important the software you use is GDPR compliant to protect user privacy.
- One final word of caution before using any kind of email blast program: Building a strong subscription base can be incredibly effective at increasing sales and many marketeers and website owners will tell you there’s nothing more powerful than a loyal email subscriber list when it comes to making conversions and sales. However, although bulk emailing software is an effective way of targeting large numbers of customers, it must be used following local anti-spamming laws otherwise it can do more harm to your business than good.
Here then are the best bulk email software solutions in order of ranking.

This includes everything from Opt-in Pages, Sales Pages and Promo Pages.
You can easily drag and drop elements onto the page – there’s no coding or HTML required although there is an HTML editor if you know what you’re doing.
One of the most frustrating things when creating mailouts is making sure that they display properly in all the different types of email clients out there.
To make sure that your emails display correctly in all types of email providers, GetResponse has a useful email preview feature that shows you how it looks it different online email services such as Gmail and Yahoo Mail.

2. Constant Contact
Constant Contact has been in the email marketing business over 20 years and is an incredibly well designed email marketing solution that takes the complexities of email targeting and makes it easy.
If you’re a small business or non-profit that doesn’t have time to learn the ropes of email marketing but needs an effective, understandable and reliable solution, Constant Contact is an excellent choice.
From automatic welcome emails, subject line testing and contact segmentation years of experience in the email marketing industry has made Constant Contact a very refined tool.
One thing that stands out in Constant Contact is that Contact Management is very well done compared to many email marketing apps and it allows you to import lists from Excel, Outlook, Salesforce and more.
Another Constant Contact strong point is the quality of the email templates. Many email marketing tools include templates but they’re often generic and uninspiring or difficult to edit as you want.
Constant Contact has a huge choice of attractive, mobile ready professional templates which you can easily customize by simply dragging and dropping images and text boxes.
Another thing that differentiates Constant Contact from the rest is that it also offers a personal marketing coach (at extra cost of course) to assist you with campaigns.
If you’re new to this business, then this can be a big help in setting-up your first marketing automation campaign, configuring auto responders etc.
If social media and third-party integration is important to you (and it should be nowadays for any kind of marketing effort), you can connect your Constant Contact campaigns to Facebook but also platforms like WordPress, Shopify and Hootsuite.
Finally, Constant Contact provides easy to digest stats and analysis of how your email campaigns are performing with analytics that include information such as open rate, conversion rate and even which headlines are working best.
Pricing for Constant Contact is divided into two types – Email and Email Plus. Email Plus is the most professional solution and includes added features including email automation, A/B testing, online donations, surveys/polls and coupons.
The basic Email Plans starts at $20 per month for up to 500 subscribers and Email Plus plans start at $45 per month.
There are discounts of up to 15% if you pay in advance, have email lists of over 10,000 contacts or are part of a franchise/association.
You can start using Constant Contact now for free for 60 days with no credit card required before committing to any plan and there’s a 30 day money back guarantee.
Overall, Constant Contact is a solid, straightforward mass email software for Mac that keeps things really easy but does its job effectively.

3. Mailjet
If you’re looking for something easy to create marketing emails with, capable of high volume send outs and focused on team collaboration, Mailjet could be for you.
Mailjet is used by over 130,000 businesses and can handle anything from just a few hundred mailouts to over a million a month.
It’s suitable for both email marketing and transactional marketing needs. Transactional emails are automatically triggered when certain actions are completed such as account creation, purchase receipts and other customer conversions.
Some of the highlights of Mailjet include:
- Segmentation: The ability to segment your subscriber list by demographic, occupation, gender etc
- Advanced A/B Testing: You can compare not just 2 but up to 10 different variations of a mailout to gauge the best conversion results.
- EasyTeam Collaboration: You can easily work on email layouts with other team members in real time
We particularly like the way Mailjet handles team collaboration. Instead of allowing anyone to edit anything, it allows you to configure roles and permissions for individual members.
So for example, you can assign specific roles to Managers, Designers, Marketers, Developers and other departments so that they only control their specific role in your campaign.
We also like the way that you can leave comments and add your approval in real time to email layouts or designs.
The email templates are tasteful, easy to edit and optimized for mobile devices.
According to Mailjet, over 50% of mailouts are opened on mobile devices and you can preview how they’ll look when opened on phones and tablets.
You can use the “Passport” tool to customize templates quickly with no programming knowledge or you can edit the HTML or markup language MJML.
The analytics tools in Mailjet are basic but track actions in real time and indicate metrics such as delivery, bounce, unopened and block rates.
Other useful features in Mailjet include SMTP relay, API integration, and support for Google Cloud, WordPress and Microsoft Azure.
The free version of Mailjet offers a generous 6,000 free emails a month but is limited to 200 emails per day.
Professional Plans start at $8.69 per month for up to 30,000 per month with customized Enterprise plans for high volume senders.
You can try Mailjet for free with no credit card required to test it for yourself.
4. AWeber
AWeber has been around since 1998 and in that time and in our opinion, is still one of the best value online email marketing platforms available for both Mac and PC users.
AWeber was one of the original email marketing automation solutions and creates highly targeted campaigns with little effort on your part.
If you like to have mobile control over your campaigns on the move too, the AWeber mobile app is also arguably the best we’ve seen in an email marketing software.
AWeber is packed with professional templates based on different themes and the quality is particularly good compared to the competition.
Email Automation, known as “Campaigns” in AWeber, is probably one of the software’s strongest features and helps build stronger customer relationships and more targeted campaigns.
AWeber will trigger follow-up emails, SMS messages and other actions depending on how you want to configure it meaning you don’t have to manually go through your reports and then follow-up afterwards.
When dealing with thousands of subscribers, this is incredibly useful and time-saving.
For instance you can setup a Welcome Campaign for new subscribers and then trigger Educational and Sales Campaigns afterwards depending on the response and actions of your contacts.
The way AWeber handles this is extremely easy – you simply drag and drop actions and order them in the priority you want them to happen.
AWeber pricing starts are $19+ per month for 500 subscribers.
You can try a 30 day free trial of AWeber to judge for yourself.
You can also watch an overview of AWeber’s impressive social media features below.
5. FreshMail
If it’s simply newsletters that you want to focus on, then check out FreshMail.
FreshMail is a Polish based company that’s all about creating impressive emails and newsletters with a powerful design editor and lots of glitzy templates.
In fact there are over 150 FreshMail templates all with tasteful designs and the ability to customize them exactly how you want with the FreshMail designer or you can import your own HTML designs.
In fact, when it comes to design, FreshMail is probably the slickest we’ve seen with professional templates inspired by newsletters sent out by companies such as The Guardian, Dolce & Gabbana and Lonely Planet etc.
FreshMail features a few nice unique features such as the ability to organize promotions via barcodes that users can use in retail stores making it an ideal email marketing software for retailers and shops.
You can import contacts in CSV or XLS format and upload contacts from Google, Basecamp and a few other online services.
FreshMail can even detect and remove duplicate contacts once they are imported.
The analytics allow you to track the activities, clicks and actions of your campaigns easily.
There are plenty of FreshMail video tutorials to help you get started and detailed How To guides if you get stuck.
Overall, FreshMail is easily the most design oriented email marketing software we’ve seen although it’s also very basic compared to powerful applications like Active Campaign and GetResponse.
There are no advanced features such as detailed reporting, automated marketing and mobile app access that you expect in most email marketing platforms.
The good thing though is that although there’s no FreshMail trial, you can start using it for free for up to 1000 emails or 500 subscribers. No credit card or contract is required to use the free version of FreshMail.
After that, pricing starts at a modest $12 per month for up to 1000 subscribers or you can Pay As You Go starting at $28 for 5000 emails.
If it’s newsletter email marketing campaigns you want to do without breaking the bank, give FreshMail a try.
6. ActiveCampaign
When it comes to email marketing, ActiveCampaign is easily the most hands-off email marketing system we’ve used on a Mac.
Not only does it do much of the hard work for you by automating email marketing but it’s extremely easy to use.
Even better it’s one of the best value for money email marketing platforms out there starting at just $9 per month for 500 contacts or less.
That’s cheaper than any other professional email marketing solution and yet ActiveCampaign is extremely effective at getting results.
The main thing we like is that ActiveCampaign makes it extremely easy to create attractive email marketing campaigns that actually work.
ActiveCampaign is built around the idea of Marketing Automation which means that it triggers personalized emails to potential leads based on certain actions they make without you having to do anything.
This intelligent approach to mailout campaigns is not just time-saving but effective too because it’s incredibly well targeted.
The email editor in ActiveCampaign is an easy to use WYSIWYG editor that allows you to drag and drop text and images and customize things like fonts, titles and colors.
There are many themed templates to speed things up and all are optimized for mobile devices too. You can of course manually modify HTML and CSS if you know what you’re doing.
ActiveCampaign also includes its own Sales and CRM system to help bring everything together and manage everything under one app.
Like almost all bulk email software, pricing for Active Campaign depends on the number of recipients you’re sending to.
If you’ve got less than 500 contacts, Active Campaign Lite costs just $9 per month which is extremely good value considering what you get.
For that you get unlimited sending, email marketing, newsletter sending and marketing automation for up to 3 users.
You can find full details of Active Campaign pricing here.
You can try Active Campaign for free (no credit card required) to judge for yourself.
7. SendinBlue
SendinBlue is quite a basic email marketing solution but a good option if you don’t need lots of features or are looking for something free for up to 300 subscribers.
Tk102 is constantly updating KSE so even a week from now you may want to check on a newer version. https://safelucky.netlify.app/kotor-save-editor-for-mac.html. 3.09a was just released that is for non-english speaking modders or 3.09 for english native speakers.
The email designer is an easy to use drag and drop editor although templates are very limited in SendinBlue. You can however use your own HTML code to create customized templates instead.
One tip – if you’re going to be targeting mobile users, make sure you use the Responsive Design Builder.
A useful touch in SendinBlue is the ability to preview mails before you send them and specify the date that you want them sent on.
SendinBlue is also integrated with publishing platforms such as WordPress, Magento, PrestaShop, Drupal and WooCommerce.
SendinBlue also allows you to send SMS text messages instead of emails although you can’t trigger SMS messages depending on actions that recipients perform when they receive the mail.
In fact the email marketing automation features are very limited compared to the other software featured here.
There’s no SendinBlue free trial because you can send up to 300 emails per day for free with no credit card or contracts required.
Plans then start at a very competitive $7 for up to 40,000 emails per month going up to $66 per month for up to 120,000 emails per month.
Note that in the free version and more basic plans, there’s quite a bit of SendinBlue branding included in mail outs and reporting tools are very limited.
If you’re new to email marketing, SendinBlue is a good way to get started without spending a cent but overall it’s quite limited.
8. Response Wise
Response Wise is a relative newcomer to email marketing but a very good starting point for newcomers.
Response Wise is aimed at beginners to online marketing so it’s very easy to use and offers all the basics such as templates, analytical tools and landing page editor.
Best Email Editor For Mac 2018
Response Wise allows you to customize the default HTML mailout templates, survey builders and landing pages to help setup effective conversion pages.
You can automate pretty much everything and even perform Split Testing to figure out which emails are most effective with your customers.
The customer service for Response Wise is free and generally excellent and they will also help you migrate data from your previous platform if you’re using one.
The user guides are a bit limited – the video tutorials on the site are still missing but there are basic step-by-step guides to help you instead.
Pricing plans start at $15 per month but you don’t need to pay anything until the 30 day free trial has ended. There are also other plans for up to 10,000 and up to 25,000 subscribers for big businesses.
9. Direct Mail
Direct Mail is one of the few desktop email marketing software that’s designed specifically for Macs.
Direct Mail is easy to use, free for up to 50 mails per month and has flexible pricing plans beyond that.
Direct Mail which has lots of elegant and professional looking template designs to choose from.
The templates are easy to customize although you can only modify things like the amount of columns, titles, text and tables you want to insert.
If you know HTML though, you can import your own templates from scratch or you can import email marketing templates from apps like Apple Mail, Mail Designer, MailChimp, Campaign Monitor or any other HTML document.
Direct Mail uses a WYSIWYG interface so you can see your mailshots take shape as you edit them. Adding images is simply a case of dragging and dropping them into the interface and they are automatically optimized for Retina displays.
Particularly useful in Direct Mail is the Email Preview feature which allows you to design test how your newsletter will look in 30 different email clients depending on the email account your customers are receiving in (such as Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Thunderbird etc).
The tracking tools in Direct Mail are useful and succinct, providing a clear overview of the opened and unopened rate with the top 5 most clicked links clearly visible.
Reports can also be delivered to your iPhone via a free app called Stamps for Direct Mail.
The Direct Mail software itself is free from the Mac app store but if you need to send more than 50 mails per month, you can upgrade your quota by paying in-app.
You can buy an unlimited or pay-as-you-go subscription. Depending on the number of bulk e-mails you want to send, Pay Per Email rates range from $15 for 500 recipients to $499 for up to 50,000 recipients.
Direct Mail is perfect for those that want a dedicated Mac email marketing application although it lacks the power and marketing automation features of the top products.
10. MaxBulk Mailer
MaxBulk Mailer has a desktop client for both Windows and Mac (so it’s perfect for those that work on teams on both platforms) but is aimed at professionals and web designers who have some technical knowledge.
MaxBulk Mailer is suitable for a range of marketing tasks from simply sending press releases and newsletters to price lists and sales promotions.
It doesn’t include any newsletter templates but it does support text and HTML formatted emails which you can then save as templates for frequent use. It also allows you to attach files and images to your mailouts.
There is an address list manager to manage recipients and there are no extra costs once you’ve made the initial $59.99 purchase no matter how many people you send to.
For those that know what they’re doing with databases, there’s support for mySQL, postgreSQL and ODBC databases.
Technical knowledge isn’t required though – MaxBulk Mailer is generally very easy to use and you can check the extensive user manual to see how to get started publishing your first newsletter.
The only slightly technical part is setting-up email configurations but you can do this using Gmail quite easily using these mail configuration instructions.
Note that if your email list is currently in Excel format, you can’t import them into MaxBulk Mailer in XLS format but you can convert them into text format first or copy them in from the clipboard.
If you’ve got some technical know-how and want a very basic bulk email tool with a Mac desktop client, MaxBulk Mailer is worth a shot.
11. Hoolie
Hoolie is a very basic group email marketing newsletter software that’s designed specifically for macOS.
It’s made by the same developers as GroupMail for Windows which counts the BBC, Adobe and Fulitsu among its customers although it’s nowhere near on the same level as GroupMail.
Hoolie is aimed mainly at those that need a simple but elegant way to send newsletters and uses a (WYSIWYG) interface that means you don’t have to mess around with HTML to format your mails unless you want to.
You can also use one of several ready-made templates although they’re quite basic.
Hoolie doesn’t import contact lists from Excel but it is integrated with your Mac’s Address Book. Your contacts aren’t saved online anywhere either – they remain on your Mac at all times.
There are no limits or monthly costs – simply buy the app from the Mac App Store for $49.99 and off you go.
12. Autopilot
As the name suggests, Autopilot is all about automating as much of your email marketing campaigns as possible.
Autopilot helps you create highly personalized emails, SMS texts and even in-app messages which should in turn return better conversion rates and reader loyalty.
Everything in Autopilot can be synced with most major CRM software or Google Analytics.
Autopilot uses sophisticated tracking and organizes your clients including such things as Smart Segments to group users of similar values or demographic.
There are also tools to help you perform A/B testing to improve your marketing strategies.
Autopilot has a basic email composer which allows you to create professional mail outs although it doesn’t support dragging and dropping or resizing of images. Free photo editor for mac.
There’s integration with Facebook which notifies you of the exact link that someone has clicked on allowing you to turn anonymous clicks into leads or customers.
Once they’re added to your contacts, the actions and activities of these users is automatically tracked by Autopilot.
Autopilot is a very well-organized email marketing software and certainly gives you a high degree of control over automated marketing and capturing new contacts.
It is considerably more focused on marketing automation than design though and doesn’t have the range of templates and email design flair that most of the marketing software featured here do.
Pricing for Autopilot starts at around $20 for 1000 contacts or $40 a month for business users that need Salesforce integration, A/B split testing and segment.com integration.
If you want to focus on pure email marketing automation, Autopilot is a powerful, easy to use option but it lacks the comprehensive tools of the top picks.
13. OutBoundEngine
If you don’t have the time or money to invest in a full-time email marketing effort, then look no further than OutBoundEngine.
OutBoundEngine is expensive starting at $179 per month but for that price, the company provides its own in-house copy writing, marketing design and tracking services.
All marketing material is branded for your business and the OutBoundEngine team can produce material in just a few days after receiving logos and other assets from you.
This makes OutBoundEngine very different from other email marketing software and is obviously reflected in the significantly higher price compared to other options.
It means you don’t have the expense of employing your own large in-house marketing team (or any at all) and is definitely worth closer inspection, especially for small businesses.
One other nice thing we like about OutBoundEngine is that it allows you to setup and track your own referral program so that users and customers are encouraged to spread the word about your services.
Pricing for OutBoundEngine mainly depends on the number of subscribers you want to target.
It starts at $179 per month for the Basic Plan for up to 300 contacts which includes branded content for your marketing campaign, two automated email campaigns per month, engagement tracking and support from the OutBoundEngine team whenever you need it.
The Value plan is $229 per month and supports up to 1000 contacts and 30 social media posts per month. The Premium Plan costs $299 per month and supports up to 10,000 contacts plus the bonus of quarterly referral campaigns.
The best thing to do is try a free demo of OutBoundEngine where they’ll ask for you a few details about your business and then send you a sample of the kind of material they can produce for you based on your business and branding.

There are automated features such as automatic follow-up emails, autoresponders and clear reporting tools.

Vertical Response is free for up to 300 contacts and 4000 emails per month but there are also pay as you go and monthly payment plans.
15. Sendblaster
Sendblaster is a very popular bulk email software for Windows although you can only run it on Mac using Parallels.
Parallels allows you to run Windows on a Mac and therefore install Sendblaster as if you were using a PC.
Once installed, Sendblaster works exactly the same as if you were using a PC including the message editor, contact list manager and newsletter mailing via your SMTP server via the turboSMTP wizard.
Sendblaster is available both in Free and Pro edition. The Free edition is a good way to see if you like Sendblaster although for serious use, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pro edition because the free edition is limited to just 100 recipients as you can see from this Sendblaster Free v Pro comparison chart.
If there are other Windows applications that you miss on your Mac such as Microsoft Project and Microsoft Visio, installing Windows on your Mac to use Sendblaster is a good investment as you can then install any PC software on your Mac.
However, there are many more better email send out solutions featured here that we’d recommend before going down this route.
16. MailChimp
MailChimp is one of the most popular online email marketing solutions out there and the interface features a very nice Mac aesthetic.
MailChimp is a popular starting point for those getting started in email marketing because it allows a very generous 12,000 email or 2000 subscriber limit for free.

MailChimp can also be integrated with CRM software such as Salesforce and Eventbrite or content management systems such as WordPress by going to “Integrations” within your MailChimp account.
MailChimp is free for 12,000 mails/2000 subscribers which is easily the most generous free deal on the market and there’s no need to give your credit card details in order to use it.

You can find full details on MailChimp pricing here.
Overall, MailChimp is a very accomplished e-marketing tool suitable for a wide range of abilities and needs.
17. PhpList
PhpList is an open source email marketing software which is very powerful although it’s a bit technical for beginners.
PhpList is open source as the creators take privacy very seriously and unlike most email blast tools, it doesn’t store any of your data online.
Everything is stored on your Mac and you can extend the functionality of PhpList with different add-ons and templates .
PhpList looks very basic and is definitely designed with programmers or those with technical know-how when it comes to setting-up servers but if you can master it, it’s a very secure and powerful free email blast software.
Because PhpList is open source, it’s completely free to use for up to 300 emails.
For bigger mailout quotas, can pay for subscriber plans ranging from $10 per month for 10,000 subscribers up to $300 per month for 100,000 subscribers.

Email Marketing Templates For Mac
One thing that Mac users lack when it comes to email marketing is the wide variety of templates that are available on Windows.
Most email marketing templates for Mac come as part of the software options reviewed here and you can’t actually download standalone email marketing templates for Mac.
However, MailChimp does allow Mac users to design their own templates via Mail Designer 365 for Mac (formerly known as Mail Designer) which allows you to create professional looking templates without needing any knowledge of HTML.
You can use Mail Designer 365 for Mac as an all-in-one email marketing tool if you just want to create responsive newsletters as it will also integrate with your default mail client such as Apple Mail or Outlook.
Best Email Editor For Mac Free
However any email marketing software that can import HTML (which is pretty much all of them) can import templates made in the app.
The Mail Designer 365 app itself is free but there are in-app purchases depending on the size of your business.
Anti-Spam Laws & Email Blast Software
Using email marketing software aggressively can quickly earn you a reputation as a spammer among customers. Spamming (bombarding people with commercial e-mail) or sending Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE) should be avoided at all costs and is even illegal in some countries.
You should also only use e-mail marketing software to target customers who have willingly given you their e-mail address for commercial purposes.
Harvesting e-mail addresses from the internet and spamming them may not only be illegal but will have a negative effect on your organizations reputation. And subscribers should also always be offered an “Opt-out” or “Unsubscribe” option in every mail out you send.
Note that bulk mailing can also result in your internet connection being suspended by your ISP. You should check with your email provider whether it supports bulk mailing – Gmail for example limits e-mail sending to 500 a day to prevent spamming.
For more information on bulk email limits, check here.
Conclusion

What Is Email Marketing Software?
Social media has radically expanded the options marketers have when promoting their wares. But at the core of almost every digital marketing campaign, you'll still find email. With a low cost to entry, numerous options to let you tailor a solution for your particular needs, and fantastic engagement numbers when done properly, email remains a marketing favorite.
Email marketing solutions run the gamut from basic text-based email editors to fully designed HTML or JavaScript templates. Leveraging email for marketing can take several forms, so some packages will attempt to address all of them while others will seek to specialize. For example, some businesses might decide their most effective marketing tactic is a value-add newsletter delivered to a gated community of subscribers. Others might want to tie their emails directly to their product and sales engines, providing special offers and deals to recipients.
Each of those tactics requires different tools when it comes to ceation of the source email, dissemination to specific recipients, and integration with other back-end systems, notably the accounting system, the customer relationship management (CRM) system, and possibly even the inventory management system. You can manage your contacts by simply keeping a list of names and email addresses, or you can create a complex database full of subscribers segmented by demographic slices and engagement levels. Which method you choose really just depends on how much of your budget you're willing to allocate towards the email marketing software that can give your company the features it needs.
Artificial Intelligence Has Arrived
If there was one key development for email marketing in 2018, then that was the addition of artificial intelligence (AI). While you might not immediately think of AI when considering an email marketing campaign, the technology has had several positive impacts industry-wide within a very short time.
On a more basic level, AI improves email marketing mechanics such as A/B testing and smarter audience segmentation. This can have immediate benefits in terms of optimizing your marketing strategies for different customers and sending the right content to the right people. On a more advanced note, AI can actually optimize email content for specific audiences and product campaigns. Additionally, it can help with personalizing email content right down to the individual customer level, depending on how much information you can feed it from your CRM and sales systems. Strong stuff, which means determining exactly how a potential email marketing service has implemented AI should be a key criteria for most marketers before purchasing.

In our email marketing software review roundup, we test the top email marketing tools available based on how easy it is to create emails, build subscriber lists, set autoresponders, and pull in other communication-based tools, such as social media management and web analytics software. To that end, we selected Campaigner and MailChimp as the best pure-play email marketing services. If you need a more complex tool that can build comprehensive workflows designed to automate the email marketing process, then we recommend HubSpot and Pardot, which are better served as marketing automation tools.
What's the difference between them? One-off communications versus prolonged, email-based interactions. For example, email marketing tools are excellent for one-off communications. You can use these tools for the one time you'd like to send someone an automated email response when they join a subscriber list, on their birthday, or when you promote a new product. But marketing automation tools are better suited for prolonged, email-based interactions. For example, you can use marketing automation tools whenever you want to guide someone from a subscriber list to a product purchase. Or you can send thank you emails or send new product promotions—all without having to lift a finger after the workflow is designed.

Packages, Setup, and Support
And that leads us right into understanding service pricing and packaging. The email marketing services we reviewed range from about $5 per month to as much as $20 per month for a range of features. Many email marketing plans include unlimited email sends each month and bill you based on the number of subscribers. If you have a small list, then look for a company that offers a free plan, a low-cost plan for several hundred subscribers, or even a pay-as-you-go plan. On the flip side, many of these services also offer high-volume plans with up to 100,000 or more contacts. Sometimes this requires a custom plan that has to be arranged directly with a sales rep. If you're willing to commit, then look for the companies that offer discounts if you pay yearly rather than monthly. A few offer also money-back guarantees.
Getting started shouldn't be daunting. Generally, you'll know right away whether you like a user interface (UI) or not, and most of the contenders we reviewed offer free trials so you can poke around before dropping any cash. Luckily, most of these services have modern-looking graphics and uncluttered layouts. These are not the complex business software UIs of yesterday. Be careful, though, as some free trials require a credit card. This means you need to be sure to cancel your trial before you're billed if you're not happy with the service.
Be sure to look at the tech support offered by each of these companies, as we felt many weren't as available as we would have liked. You'll find that some offer 24/7 phone support, live chat, and email help, while others leave you to rely on online documentation and limited live support hours. The best services offer a combination of self-serve help resources—where you can search FAQs and articles to find your own answers—as well as live support via chat or phone when you can't solve an issue yourself. We cover all of these concerns in our reviews, plus you can get an overview in the feature chart above.
Managing Subscribers, Creating Campaigns
Whether you already have a list of subscribers or are starting from scratch, email marketing services can help. All of the services we cover let you add contacts manually using copy and paste or by uploading CSV or Microsoft Excel files. Some integrate with third-party software enabling you to import Gmail and other webmail contacts, Salesforce.com and other CRM data, or other software where you might have contacts stored. Depending on the size and location of your list, third-party integration could be key. Verify whether you can export contacts as well (and how easy it is to do so) should you leave the service. Managing users who unsubscribe should also be easy so you're not accidentally contacting anyone who has opted out of your newsletters.
Next up is building an email newsletter. The best services offer several ways to do this; you can import your own HTML, start from scratch, or use a pre-designed template. Most of these services have drag-and-drop UIs that let you choose exactly the elements you want to include, as well as image libraries in which you can store assets such as your logo or company photos. Tools that let you test your emails for spam are also essential since there are some seemingly innocuous terms that may send up red flags and drop all of your hard work into your subscribers' junk folders or, worse, get your emails banned before they ever reach their recipients.
Email Responders and Campaign Tracking
Beyond sending basic newsletters, the best email marketing services offer custom autoresponders which help you stay in touch with your contacts with automatically generated emails based on special occasions (such as their birthday or anniversary), welcome emails for new subscribers, or thank you emails for recent purchases.
The most advanced email marketing services offer custom workflows where you can specify triggers based on actions (such as opening an email or making a purchase) or on inaction (such as ignoring emails). With these services, you can also set up a series of emails (such as tutorials) to be sent to segments of users, and you can pause or stop a campaign at any time. You can also move contacts into new segments once they have completed tutorials.
Of course, sending out campaigns is no help to your business unless you can track your successes and failures and make adjustments based on your learnings. All of the services covered here offer some level of tracking, whether it's simple open and click rate data, color-coded charts and statistics, or even integration with Google Analytics.
As a growing business, you may also be looking for a CRM solution, and you'll find that the more advanced email marketing services have begun to crossover into CRM. It makes sense: Both types of software deal with managing and communicating with customers. A handful of these services are one-stop shops, either offering both email marketing and CRM out of the box or as add-on services.
